SINKS CANYON

 

SINKS CANYON - MAIN WALL

As of 5/1/24: In season

General Conditions: You can climb at Sinks Main Wall year round with the best conditions in the Fall, Winter, and Spring. It is generally to hot in the summer unless you go in the evenings when the walls are shady.

SINKS CANYON - SHADY SIDE

As of 5/1/24: Too cold and snowy.

General Conditions: The School Wall, Porters Prow, Heavy Metal Rock Band, and Aspen Grade are good for the Summer and Fall days. These walls will receive sunlight late in the afternoon, but the forest provides shade.


SINKS CANYON - GRANITE

As of 5/1/24: The Joint/Sanctuary crags are prime for climbing on a sunny day if they are not wet after a snow.

General Conditions: You can climb at the granite year round with the best conditions in the Fall, Summer and Spring. It is generally to hot in the summer unless you go in the evenings when the walls are shady.


SINKS CANYON - SANDSTONE

As of 5/1/24: In Season

General Conditions: You can climb on the sandstone year round with the best conditions in the Fall, Winter, and Spring. It is generally to hot in the summer unless you go in the evenings when the walls are shady. DO NOT CLIMB 24 HRS AFTER PRECIPITATION. Please also respect any raptor closures


FOSSIL HILL

As of 5/1/24: Inaccessible until when the loop road opens around Memorial Day,

General Conditions: Fossil Hill receives sun for most of the day until 4PM or so which makes it popular for evening sessions. The best time of year to climb here is late Spring and Fall.

LIMESTONE MOUNTAIN and LITTLE POPO AGIE CANYON


WILD IRIS

As of 5/1/24: Inaccessible until around Memorial Day,

General Conditions: The best time to climb here is late Spring to the end of Fall. There are vault toilets at the Aspen Glades and Main Wall parking lots, please use them. There are bears in the area so please store your food properly, and follow leave no trace principles.

MINER’S DELIGHT

As of 5/1/24: Inaccessible until around Memorial Day,

General Conditions: Late Spring and early Fall are best. The main wall is shady until 11am and then it is sunny for the rest of the day. A high clearance+4WD Vehicle is recommended.

LITTLE POPO AGIE CANYON


WOLF POINT

As of 5/1/24: Inaccessible until around Memorial Day,

General Conditions: Late Spring and Fall are the best times to climb. It is quite remote so come prepared with plenty of food and water. High clearance and good tires are recommended.

SWEATLODGE/GHOST TOWN

As of 5/1/24: Inaccessible until around Memorial Day,

General Conditions: Summer and Fall are the best times to climb here.

The trail to the sweatlodge late in the summer.


OTHER AREAS


CIRQUE OF THE TOWERS

As of 5/1/24: Inaccessible until around Memorial Day,

General Conditions: The prime time to climb in the Winds is June-August. Be prepared for thunderstorms, mosquitoes, and other alpine hazards.

As of 5/1/24: Good climbing temps, but you will have to walk the mile or so in on the road.

BALDWIN CREEK / SUICIDE POINT

As of 5/1/24: Inaccessible until around Memorial Day,

General Conditions: Fall is the best season to climb here. It is also important to note that the road is arguably the roughest to any of the Lander crags. High clearance, good tires and 4WD highly recommended. A Subaru will not make it.

HIKING TRAILS AND TRAIL HEADS

SOMEWHAT CURRENT STATUS OF POPULAR HIKING TRAILS AND TRAIL HEADS ACCESSING THE WIND RIVER RANGE

 
 

As of 5/1/24: Open

POPO AGIE FALLS hike is popular. It is advisable to sample some of the other trails in the area. The alpine slide is a fun activity for hot summer days.

The Stock Bypass Trail is a fairly recent addition to the trail systems in Sinks. This trail switchbacks up to a bench above the Falls Trail and Granite Buttress and follows this elevation west to rejoin with the Middle Fork Trail above the Falls spur trail.


As of 5/1/24: Inaccessible until around Memorial Day,

Very busy access point for the southern Wind River Range due to proximity to the iconic Cirque of the Towers. Popular with many user groups.


WORTHEN MEADOWS

As of 5/1/24: Inaccessible until around Memorial Day,


SMITH LAKE TRAILHEAD

As of 5/1/24: Inaccessible until around Memorial Day

The southern of the two trailheads in Dickinson Park. Wind River Reservation Tribal Fishing Permit required to drive in via Trout Creek and Moccasin Lake road from US Highway 287.


TRAIL LAKES

As of 5/1/24: Inaccessible until around Memorial Day,

Another glacier carved valley holding Torrey Creek and access to the following trails all from the end of the road. Be sure to check out the petroglyphs on your drive in or out. Also the beginning of an approximately 24 mile, each way, journey for summit bids on Wyoming’s highest peak, Gannett.
